Process:
In this project, the students will come up with an idea for a business based on their hobbies, interests, or expertise and create a basic business plan. The students will also learn about and become familiar with the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. The students will take on the role of an entrepreneur and conduct research to assist in the business startup and create a basic business plan and presentation. This task will require the students to create an original company name, logo, and slogan, and also determine their target market, decide on their product/service, and a business plan/idea to “sell” to potential investors.
This is a culminating unit project that normally takes 1-2 weeks. Depending on the class time variations and restraints, this webquest can be an activity for the entire class period or incorporated as an extension activity. Our business courses are required to incorporate at least one long term project. The students will have unlimited access to technology during class time and additional time if they have computer/internet access at home. For assistance in project timeline, students will be provided with the daily expectation for completion and a project checklist along with the rubric. *See Activities in the Student Site-Process page and the Business Plan rubric in the Student Site- Evaluation page. Depending on the overall access to technology and resources, timelines can be extended or shortened.
Teacher can also request to receive additional student progress feedback via daily exit posts.
Depending on technological resources, students can print Business Plans using color printers and bound using binding machine for submission. As an extension, students can produce a free website for their businesses using the www.logogarden.com site. This is an optional extension or extra credit opportunity.
This project also works will using classroom LMS sites (like Edmodo or Schoology). Assignments can be submitted via these platforms.
